VideoAOI

Overview

The production process of printed circuit boards has become more and more complex over the years. Likewise the methods of functional testing have evolved. Nowadays the time consuming and error-prone visual inspection by humans is hardly profitable, which opens up a vast new field of research for companies such as the Digitaltest GmbH. Their area of expertise are devices for automatic, electronic function testing. These so called Flying Probe Testers connect a number of movable sensors to designated positions on the PCB to conduct measurements. The testing of an entire Pentium motherboard takes in the order of 10 to 20 minutes. Over the course of the joint project Flying Prober with VideoAOI funded by AiF, the board testers made by the Digitaltest GmbH are being augmented with an automatic, optical inspection component based on video images. The project is set to cover a period of two years, starting in July 2006.
