Cryptography I (HWS 2011)

In this course you will get an introduction to modern cryptography especially to the theory, history and the modern praxis of data encoding. You will learn basic cryptographic algorithms such as block encryption functions and hash-functions.

At first there will be an analysis of application and threat scenarios from which security relevant design criteria for the crypthographic algorithm will be deduced. You will gain information about the needed mathematical knowledge and the fundamentals of information theory and a few practical methods such as Data Encryption Standard (DES) and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), A5-Algorithm of GSM-Standards and the E0-Algorithm of Bluetooth Standards will be shown and evaluated.
